Customers were able to vote for their favourite local charity between 4th and 25th May.

Butterwick Hospice was chosen as the store’s charity after nominations poured in from customers keen to support a local good cause. Over the next 12 months, the charity will benefit from money donated through fundraising as well as volunteering.

Barbara Fountain of Butterwick Hospice Care said “We’re really excited to be partnering with Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland over the next 12 months and would like to thank everyone in the community who voted for us. We will be planning fundraising activities with the store colleagues in the coming weeks and we hope that customers will support the store’s fundraising efforts in the coming months”.

The store plan to launch the partnership with Butterwick Hospice by holding a tombola in front of the store on Friday 1st July 2011 and taking part in ‘It’s A Knock Out’ on Sunday 3rd July 2011.

Tom Phillipson, Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland store manager, added: “Butterwick Hospice Care is such a worthy local cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months. We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping to support them”.
