Featuring cards from charities including Cancer Research UK, Mencap, AgeUK, Barnardo’s and the British Red Cross, many of the shops are staffed entirely by volunteers and open in church halls and empty shops in the run up to Christmas.
“For about two thirds of the 300 outlets we have managers and volunteers, and we could not survive without our wonderful, wonderful volunteer force. We have over 7,500 volunteers helping us,” explained Christine Holland, Chief Executive of Cards for Good Causes.
The most popular design so far this year has been ‘Snow and Hare’, a design from Macmillan Cancer Support.
The shop in the Four Clocks Centre is open from 10am to 4pm until the 17th of December, whilst another outlet is open in Durham.
Cards for Good Causes pays the participating charities around 75p in the pound for their card sales, minus the VAT on the amount retained which covers the costs of operating the outlets. The charities will also deduct their own cost of producing and distributing the cards.
