A new bike security scheme has been launched by Durham Constabulary.

The Operation Spoke property marking scheme will uniquely mark and register bikes, making them easier to identify by police if they are stolen. Easy identification means that bikes can be returned more quickly to owners, and thieves arrested.

Property marking also deters thieves in the first place by making the cycle harder to sell on.

Bikes can be marked at participating retailers, or any location displaying an Operation Spoke cycle marking poster.

Owners can choose between a bespoke ‘BikeRegister’ component marking kit for £9.90 or a free bike marking system.

Every cycle retailer in County Durham and Darlington can mark cycles with either the BikeRegister kit or the FREE marking kit.
