Volunteer with Bishop FM

105.9 Bishop FM is a non-profit organisation operated entirely by volunteers, from the management to the presenters. A wide range of roles and responsibilities are open to volunteers.

“I was set to interview the guitarist and drummer from Skunk Anansie. When I arrived in the dressing room there was Skin. I was nervous to start with it got a hundred times worse. She was an amazing lady and the interview went really well in the end. Meeting them is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.”

We’re always looking for new people to join the team in a wide range of roles and make a difference in South Durham.

Take part on air and online

An important role for Bishop FM is to help local groups and organisations get a message across to listeners in South Durham.

Myself, the dedicated volunteers and of course all of the stray and abandoned dogs at the Rescue Centre would like to say a huge THANK YOU for allowing us to share our stories with you and your listeners as well as allowing us to promote our fundraising events during our monthly update including ‘Dog of the Month’!. Your generosity and kindness in inviting our small charity with a BIG heart to feature during your popular, fun & informative Drive Time show has made a huge difference to the lives of the many stray and abandoned dogs at the Deerness Kennels Rescue Centre. Keep up the great work. Straining at the leash with excitement for next months update!

Partnering with schools and colleges

Bishop FM is proud to work with St. John’s Radio at St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form Centre in Bishop Auckland. Episodes of SJR are broadcast several times a year during term times.

We are now working with more schools and colleges. Contact us and find out how we can work with you.

Invite Bishop FM to your event

We regularly attend and broadcast from popular events and venues in South Durham, including Bishop Auckland Food Festival, 2D’s Festive Fayre, Locomotion, War on the Line, Binchester Roman Fort and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service’s open days.

“The Service finds that working with Bishop FM [is] very rewarding and fruitful as a means of reaching the local communities in large numbers…”

In 2013 we also presented live match coverage from Wembley Stadium of Spennymoor’s match in the FA Vase Final and live local election results. Our presenters also visit live music events and performances every week.

Contact Bishop FM to discuss coverage of your event.

Promoting your group or charity on local radio

We often broadcast messages on behalf of local non-profit groups and charities.

Bishop Auckland Theatre Company used a brief commercial to promote their annual pantomime, leading to increased awareness of the group and attendance at performances.

“Bishop FM’s service has been extremely professional and our advert was very competitively priced. The advertisement they aired for us helped to double our audience numbers. I will definitely continue to advertise with Bishop FM as the station continues to grow and develop and have already recommended the station to other colleagues and local businesses.”

Discuss your local organisation and promotion with us on our Contact Us page.
