St John's Ambulance Unit, Spennymoor is looking for volunteers

St John's Ambulance Unit in Spennymoor are looking for volunteers. The youngest group are called Badgers and start at 5 years old or older, and meet at 6pm every Monday. The cadets are aged 10 to 16 (or 18, depending on when the cadet wants to join the adults) and meet at 7pm, and the adults meet at 8pm. It's not all about first aid - in order to gain a proficiency certificate, last year the cadets went camping and will soon attend a radio communications course in Northumberland. In addition to the possibility of working towards a Grand Prior award, cadets are also able to work for a Duke of Edinburgh Award as the part for 'service'. Cadets go out on duty to support the unit.

The Badgers are currently doing 'caring', which covers looking after yourself, others and pets, and when they cover all of their subjects they become Super Badgers. Badgers also go on farm visits, pantomimes, ice shows, weekends away and many more. All groups learn first aid and get certificates for their personal development.

Adults are fully trained and go to many public duties. St John's Ambulance Unit at Spennymoor are inviting prospective volunteers to join them at The Settlement (back of King Street), Spennymoor on a Monday evening, except Bank Holidays. For more information, contact Lynda on 01388 812626.
