To complement The Bowes Museum’s ongoing WW1 Project, Douglas Davies will speak about death, acceptance and remembrance, dwelling on the shift from War Graves to the creation of the National Memorial Arboretum. Drawing on research around cremation and woodland burial, he will contrast these with the strong visibility of the dead through memorials such as the above.
