Binchester Roman Fort, Bishop Auckland

Visitors can see the remains of the commanding officer's house of the fourth century fort, including the impressive bath building, which contains one of the best-preserved examples of a hypocaust (underfloor heating system) in the whole of Britain. The site has also recently been endowed with a new reception building providing greater space for publications and souvenirs. Open 10.00am � 4.30. Guided Tours 11.00 am and 2.00 pm.
