Bishop Auckland Choral Society Concert

On Saturday May 27th the Choral Society are singing the Stabat Mater by Gioachimo (!) Rossini, a religious work completed in 1837. By nature very operatic, but solemn at the same time, described as ‘the vestibule of Heaven.

The Choir are also presenting the premier of the Kyrie, composed by David Haslam last year.

David is a renowned flute player, and was principal flautist for the Northern Sinfonia for many years, until he became conductor of the Newcastle Philharmonic Orchestra. The piece Kyrie is a unique miniature oratorio, render beautifully with the choir and orchestra, and the solo soprano voice.

The concert is supported by the Vinovium Orchestra, a 15 piece chamber group made up of some of the finest north east instrumentalists around today.

And four renowned soloists are performing adding to this musical treat:

Rachel Davis,Carole King, Peter Coulson and David Pisarro.

It will be an evening of music to be remembered, and a great privilege for the choir to be performing a debut piece at the request of the composer himself.
The concert is at Bishop Auckland Town all, starts 7pm.
