Police and retailers join forces for festive campaign

Police officers from Bishop Auckland’s Neighbourhood Policing Team are teaming up with local retailers to combat thieves during the festive period.

‘Operation Elmer’ commenced last Monday and sees local officers, PCSO’s and Special Constables maintain visible patrols on foot and in vehicles. The aim is to prevent shoplifting and anti-social behavior in the retail parks at Tindale Crescent and St Helen Auckland.

A mobile police station is being used at locations throughout the operation, and shoppers and residents are encouraged to get crime prevention advice and safety tips.

Police are also encouraging residents to be aware of home security during the festive season by making sure their home is not seen as a target.

The next PACT meeting takes place on Wednesday, 20th November at Manor House Hotel, The Green in West Auckland. A a representative from the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be present and everyone is welcome.
