Teachers take part in Movember

Local teachers at Bishop Barrington School in Bishop Auckland have been taking part in Movember. The annual event involves growing a mustache to help raise awareness of men’s health issues.

Pupils were made aware of the aims of Movember through the school’s regular “Thought of the Week” programme delivered by form tutors.

As well as raising awareness of male health issues, staff and pupils have been able to raise funds by purchasing raffle tickets. Each raffle ticket had a space to allow staff and pupils to vote for which teacher had the best moustache.

Science teacher Marc Stuart who also co-ordinates the school’s House competitions said “We’ve had a good laugh, most of the time, hearing staff and pupils commenting on our facial hair growing efforts. We have all been canvassing for votes that not only count for us but the school Houses we represent. It is also good to know that some of the older pupils in particular are now talking about the need to check for signs of testicular cancer.”
