Santa’s not in the red at the Community Festive Fair

A green-robed Father Christmas will take up residence in his Bishop Auckland College grotto at 2D’s Community Festive Fair on Saturday, 20th November.

He’ll be adding a touch of Olde England to seasonal revelry to the event, which takes place from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

Organisers of the fair promise plenty of festive entertainment on offer to make an informative and buying expedition a brilliant day out. 2d provide support to the Voluntary and Community sector in Teesdale and Wear Valley.

Visitors will be able to find out what activities and opportunities are available in their area and admire the desirable gifts and treats, which have all been hand-picked for their locality and quality. There’s also the chance to have a go at making your own Christmas cards, tree decorations and jewellery.

Other attractions include a ‘Just Dance’ Off competition where a Nintendo DSI is up for grabs, Christmas Carols, Climbing Wall, Sports Demonstrations, Nail Art and over 90 stalls to walk round.

Kirsty Hill, 2D Marketing Officer said: “The traditional Father Christmas, complete with a crown of holly is an alternative to the more familiar red Santa, an invention of Coca Cola in the 1930s. A green Father Christmas adds a really unusual twist to our Community Festive Fair this year, but for centuries this was the character who typified festive cheer.

The range of attractions is vast, as well as Father Christmas and all the other family fun activities, the ‘Your Choice’ programme, which is made up of local voluntary, community, education and business organisations, will be on hand to help guide people onto the right career path, whether that’s volunteering, training or employment opportunities. There’s something for everyone!”
