Local people to help evaluate town centre’s streets

An audit of Bishop Auckland town centre’s streets is set to take place on Saturday.

The study will be carried out by Living Streets, a national charity which specialises in the creation of attractive, enjoyable and safe streets. The audit is being carried out on behalf of Durham County Council.

It is hoped that Saturday’s street audit will examine the quality of streets and spaces from the point of view of residents and businesses that use the street, rather than those who manage them.

Small groups of people comprised of traders, the public, businesses and local councillors will walk a particular route in the town to see what would be improved, what works well and what should be done.

A report will be prepared by Living Streets with recommendations which will be presented to Durham County Council.

The street audit will take place on Saturday, 21st February. Anyone interested in taking part should meet at Auckland Castle at 10am.
