Everyone at 105.9 Bishop FM is a volunteer – from the on-air presenters to the management. If you’re interested in radio, getting involved at a community radio station is a great way to develop your skills.
There are many ways in which you can get involved.
Current Volunteer Vacancies
Identifying newsworthy stories, investigating the facts, seeking witness reports and producing local news articles and features of interest to the people living and working in South Durham.
Organises the programme content and running order, books guests for interviews, engages with the audience, prepares the listen again features and programme repeats. Keeps the presenter working within station guidelines and the requirements of the Broadcasting Code.
Presents the programme, reading scripts, playing music and speaking to guests on air. This can be live or pre-recorded.
If you don’t have any technical skills or burning ambition to be a radio presenter, but feel that you have some other expertise, skills or information that would be interesting/useful to our listeners and would like to share that knowledge, why not propose a regular slot/feature in one of our shows.
Supports and maintains the studio and all IT and broadcasting equipment, keeping it clean and in good working order. Ready to react whenever there is a technical hitch and coming up with new and innovative ways to achieve the best technical results to a problem, often with little or no budget!
Organises fundraising events, seeks grant-funding, sells adverts and establishes service level agreements to raise money to keep the station on air.
Maintains the structure and design of the station website, and provides training and support to people creating and publishing website content.
Works in every avenue available to raise the station’s profile to increase listener numbers and public awareness about the station.
