Scout leaders seek adult volunteers

Locally, the number of youngsters involved in scouting has increased by almost 70% in the past nine years. As a result Leaders are undertaking two initiatives. They are looking to increase the number of adults working with the youngsters in Bishop Auckland itself, whilst setting up a new Cub Scout Pack for Coundon and Leeholme.

Ian Johnson leads the organisation across Bishop Auckland. He noted that there is always a regular turnover of adults volunteering but that at present there is a specific need for adults to work with the Beaver Scouts in Bishop Auckland. The Beaver Scouts are boys and girls aged from six to eight years old. Volunteers would become part of a team of adults and receive support of established leaders and trainers. We have weekly meetings for the Beaver Scouts, but some volunteers commit to helping every other week with all coming together to assist on specific activities.

More information on volunteering with the Scout Groups in and around Bishop Auckland can be obtained from Mr Johnson on 0845 0944 084 or by emailing bishopauckland@durhamscouts.org.uk.
